Tips For Your First Visit to Las Vegas

I have lived in Las Vegas since 2004. I have worked in the same hospitality/entertainment company for the past thirteen years. For nine of those years, I worked in two different casinos so my ‘office’ was on Las Vegas Boulevard or the Strip as it is commonly called. Most locals who work on the Strip really don’t want to hang out where they work if they don’t have to, but I make it a point to stay at hotels on the Strip whenever I have some vacation time. I love it!  There is always something new and exciting happening. I can imagine how exciting it must be for someone who has never been here before.  I can always see it from the first-timer’s eyes and I do know enough to share some worthwhile tips for those of you who plan to visit this sparkly city for the first time. It is Hot and DRY If you are going to be visiting in the next couple of months, you probably already… Read More

$75,000 Slot Tournament Hosted at Paris Las Vegas

I was recently invited to play in a slot tournament for select Total Rewards members. This is the loyalty program of Caesars Entertainment, the company that owns casinos such as Harrah’s, Planet Hollywood, and The LINQ to name a few. The offer came with complimentary room accommodations and I chose to stay at Planet Hollywood which is located next door to Paris Las Vegas where the tournament took place. For those of you who have never played in a slot tournament before, you may find this a bit intimidating.  The truth of the matter is, there really is no special skill required other than the ability to hit a button really fast. There are some who believe that they may be able to influence the outcome of a spin, but truly it is a game of chance. Slot tournament formats are all basically the same. When you sign up for a tournament, you are assigned a machine and a slot session time to play.  For this tournament, the participants each… Read More

Daryl Hall & John Oates and Tears for Fears in Las Vegas

While Downtown Las Vegas was throwing it back to the 90’s at the I love 90’s: The Party Continues Tour, everyone else was on the Strip at the T-Mobile Arena rockin’ to 80’s music with Daryl Hall & John Oates with Tears for Fears! It initially sounded like a mismatched combination, but their distinctive personalities really gave the audience a beautiful blend of one singing style and genre to another. Tears for Fears started a little earlier than expected. Everyone was rushing to their seats in the middle of their first song. Tears for Fears opened with “Everybody Wants to Rule The World” and sang their big hits, “Head Over Heels,” “Change,” and “Shout.” They also surprised the audience and did an amazing cover of Radiohead’s “Creep!” Although they didn’t bring anything new to the cover by pretty much staying faithful to the original, they still managed to effectively give a fantastic performance. While Tears for Fears generally kept their music sounding like it did in the 80’s, with of… Read More
