Vegas Valley Winery, wine tasting, Vegas

Dating during the COVID-19 pandemic has been challenging. Staying home and watching NetFlix has been my go-to date activity.  It gets a bit boring after a while so the opportunity to visit the Vegas Valley Winery, for a wine tasting, was an exciting one. It is Clark County’s first and only winery, and located just a few minutes away from the Las Vegas Strip.  The Winery sits next to Grape Expectations, a go-to for wine enthusiasts who want to make their own wine.

The tasting room adheres to safety protocols with masks readily available at the door and huge bottles of hand sanitizers around the establishment.  I also like the ample spacing between tables and the fact that it was not crowded. Crowds make me anxious.  We spent an enjoyable three hours in a very comfortable, relaxed setting.

Wine Tasting

While most wine tastings have more commonly found grapes like Cabernet and Chardonnay, the Vegas Valley Winery uses grapes like Barbera and Muscat. The selection on their tasting menu ranges from light, summery wines to heavy dinner ones, and dessert wines to cap the nine bottle selection. My favorite was the Subtle Blond which is a Riesling with scents of honey and overtones of peach and apricot.

We also feasted on a charcuterie board with meats and cheeses, and a pepperoni pizza! Our wine tasting host slowly brought out each wine and described each one before pouring. The experience never felt rushed. I also think tasting wine with your significant other makes for a really romantic date!

Although not on the tasting menu, I recommend trying their Sidewinder Hard Cider. It is quite refreshing with a semi-sweet taste and a light carbonation. I really like that they source apples from a local orchard in Vegas called Gilcrease.

Tour

Make sure you take advantage of the free tour offered with the tasting! My wine geeky date walked in with a wealth of knowledge about wines and managed to walk out having learned so much more from our very passionate tour guide, KJ. We learned everything from the different wine regions in the world to manufacturing to flavor profiles. He talked about Grape Expectations where you learn the winemaking process, and we were pleasantly surprised to hear about the different events that take place monthly like Booze Yoga and Wine Wednesday.
