I am a huge fan of Japanese food and no one does it better than acclaimed chef, Nobu Matsuhisa. He has a unique style of blending traditional Japanese dishes with Peruvian ingredients. On my recent trip to New York, I had the

pleasure of dining in the downtown location of Nobu which is located in the heart of Manhattan’s Financial District. Although there are two Nobu locations in Las Vegas: Nobu Las Vegas Hard Rock and Nobu Las Vegas Caesars Palace, I have never dined at either of these locations. Oddly enough, I have only been to the restaurants in New York. This was my first visit to this beautiful location.

The venue is absolutely gorgeous with an extraordinarily high ceiling and impeccable architectural detail which include majestic pillars around the venue. The venue, which is the former AT & T building, was designed by the Rockwell Group.

Ceramic Murals by Pascale Girardin

On the upper floor is a 4,500 square foot bar and lounge. To get to the dining area, you must walk down a flight of stairs which is actually a beautiful staircase! There are ceramic murals which adorn the walls along the restaurant created by artist, Pascale Girardin. Guests may also watch the sushi chefs at work while sitting at their sushi bar. The warm, almost sexy ambience, complimented the tasty temptations only Chef Nobu can create.

With the limited amount of time we had before we had to get to the airport to head back to Las Vegas, we opted to order an array of appetizers and an assortment of sushi.

Shishito Peppers
I am not a fan of shishito peppers so no matter where I eat these, I do not rave about them in general. With that said, my friend who loves them said these were absolutely amazing. I did, however, eat the miso chips that were served with the peppers. They were quite good!

Crispy Rice with Spicy Tuna

Crispy Rice with Spicy Tuna
This was an interesting treat. The rice was fried into cubes and placed on to sticks almost like a lollipop. Then you dip them into the ponzu sauce and top with the spicy tuna. Ponzu tastes like a fusion of soy sauce, rice vinegar and lemon juice. It really complimented the taste of the subdued flavor of the rice and the spiciness of the tuna! It was delicious!

Rock Shrimp Tempura
Nobu is known for their Rock Shrimp Tempura; just look at this beautiful dish in the gallery below! It is drizzled with a creamy, yet spicy, sweet sauce. The tempura is crispy and every bite is absolutely delightful. This was one of my favorite dishes of the afternoon!

Assorted Sushi with Sashimi
We capped the lunch with a platter of assorted sushi. In every Japanese restaurant, I have to order my favorite which is salmon sashimi. The taste of the restaurant’s salmon sashimi is actually my gage of the rating the restaurant will receive. Nobu’s salmon sashimi is always melt-in-your-mouth perfection.

If you have the opportunity to experience Nobu, a must try dish is the Black Cod with Miso. This is actually Chef Nobu’s signature dish. Regardless of the menu item, however, every dish at Nobu is exquisite.

Below is a gallery of the restaurant and the food I ate. Click on the image to scroll through the photos!

Your description of Nobu intrigues me “traditional Japanese dishes with Peruvian ingredients”. I’ve never heard let alone tasted such a thing! Was the food significantly different to traditional Japanese with the use of other ingredients?

Your photos are incredible! Thank you so much for your recommendation! I’ll add it to the list (along with some of your other posts) when my partner and I tour the US next year! 🙂
