Las Vegas is a foodie’s paradise.  This city houses some of the world’s most celebrated chefs all on the Strip and also has some noteworthy dining experiences off the Strip. I love Las Vegas because I truly love to eat!

Let me start off by saying that I am not a foodie. I eat out, I take photos of my food, post them to my social media pages, but that does not make me a foodie.  This blog will most likely irk some of the self-proclaimed foodies out there, so I apologize in advance.  Just because I do all of the things I just mentioned and cap it off with a #foodie, it does not make me a foodie. It probably makes me a foodaholic or food lover, and fat. I see people post a box of Krispy Kreme donuts on Facebook or Instagram and put a #foodie on it. No, I am sorry.  In my opinion, that does not make you a foodie.

If you are going to call yourself a foodie, I have certain expectations:

A True Foodie Spares No Expense when finding all of the newest restaurants and in every type of cuisine; it is almost their mission in life to do so.  A foodie should be able to give you recommendations for restaurants and several options on its menu and why.  You are not a foodie if you say you like a restaurant but have only ordered one dish.

A Foodie Isn’t Someone Who Just Likes To Eat; it is an experience for them enjoyed on an intellectual, almost sensual level. They are concerned with the taste, texture, and aroma of their food.  They talk about the ingredients, how ’delightful’ the melody of flavors are, and what the best wine would be to pair with the meal.

A Foodie Will Understand, On A Deeper Level, Why Something Tastes Good, while a food lover will simply enjoy the dining experience. A foodie will not only know what the ingredients are but also know the history of the dish, cooking techniques, what is in season and never needs the waiter to explain a culinary term on the menu.

Are you a foodie or food lover?

  1. I love that you defined ‘foodie.’ It is so annoying when people call themselves foodies just because they take photos of their food. I am definitely a live to eat type of person and I love researching the history of all different types of cuisines.

  2. Okay, I think after reading this article, I am just someone who likes to eat! I used to think I was a foodie, but I guess I really don’t deserve that name!

    1. You know what Jojo? I truly think I’m just a Fatty. haha. I just love to eat as well . That would be the category I’d fall under! Thank you for taking the time to read and comment! 🙂

    1. Vinil, you can eat and gamble all at the same time! haha! Seriously, there is so much to do in Vegas other than gambling . You should visit one day! 🙂 Thank you for visiting my blog site 🙂 I appreciate your time.

  3. I’m a foodie because I make it my top priority to seek out the best places to have food anywhere I visit or live. However, I don’t have the funds to go and try out all the Michelin-starred places etc. So I think that makes me the foodie hero of the poor 😛 haha, kidding, I don’t know whether I’m a real foodie or not, and I don’t care, as long as I get to try out all the awesome food 😀

    1. Food IS life. This is why I love the buffets in Vegas. The food is neverending haha. It is one of my greatest joys in life haha 🙂 Thanks for your comment!

  4. Thanks for the education – I always like learning new things! 🙂 I guess I’m a food lover, to some degree, more than a foodie. Funny you mentioned this, though, because I had a repeat Etsy customer ask me to make food banners for her kitchen because she referred to herself as a “foodie.” 🙂

    1. Maybe she truly is a foodie! 🙂 At the end of the day though, if that makes her happy to call herself that, go ahead and make her huge banners! 🙂 Thank you so much for reading!

  5. I love this! A “Foodie” is not based on the consumption of a large amount of food but rather appreciation and knowledge of the melody of the ingredients. Great article!

  6. Totally agree!!!! Hubby is a foodie as he’s an exchef. I remember on holidays a chef would bring the final touches to every table personally. He always come to ours first and my husband would taste the food and try and guess the ingredients. All other tables the chef was explaining what was in the dish as there was no menu advertised you just paid for 6 courses and waited with aniticipation

  7. I totally agree with you! I love how you said you’re more likely a foodaholic haha I think more people fall into that category. I think foodies would eat ANYTHING to try it at least once. I, personally, do NOT fall into that category haha

    1. I was actually trying to make myself sound better in my blog. In reality, I think I fall into the FATTY category because I just like to eat everything haha. Thanks for reading and taking the time to comment! 🙂

    1. It’s great to have someone like that in your life! Although I’d be busy chomping away at my food but I’d be listening as they’d be explaining the ingredients haha! Thanks for reading! 🙂

  8. I enjoy the whole experience of preparing and sharing food, but also just awesome food in general! I wouldn’t call myself a foodie! Thanks for sharing this and I LOVE the food in Vegas too!

  9. I love this! A “Foodie” is not based on the consumption of a large amount of food but rather appreciation and knowledge of the melody of the ingredients. Great article!
